Bridget Jones back in theaters: we can’t wait!

Bridget Jones returns in a fourth film entitled “Bridget Jones: Mad About Him”. In this long-awaited sequel, the heroine of an entire generation continues to charm us with her humor and wild romantic adventures.

Renée Zellweger returns to the cult role of Bridget Jones

After Bridget Jones Baby in 2016, many thought the adventures of the famous Londoner were over. However, American media outlet The Independent recently confirmed the return of Renée Zellweger to once again play the endearing character of Bridget Jones. As a reminder, her portrayal of Bridget earned her Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. Renée Zellweger will also be reunited with Emma Thompson, who plays Bridget’s doctor, alongside new recruits Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.

Notable absences and the return of Hugh Grant

If fans were hoping to see the original love trio reform, only one of Bridget’s two former lovers will be returning. Hugh Grant will reprise his role as Daniel Cleaver, the unrepentant seducer. Unfortunately, Colin Firth, who played Mark Darcy, will not be joining the cast. The official synopsis reveals an emotional plot: Bridget, now fifty-two and the mother of two children, is searching for a new love after the death of Mark Darcy, with whom she had shared ten years of happiness.

A plot twist

This fourth installment, adapted from Helen Fielding ‘s 2013 book, promises to be a mix of humor and nostalgia. This time, Bridget navigates the world of dating apps, trying to find love again while juggling her life as a mother. She meets a young man twenty years her junior, played by Leo Woodall, who may well awaken forgotten feelings in her.

The director and novelist Helen Fielding, who also penned the screenplay, promise a more mature approach to Bridget’s character. However, the film will also venture into darker tones, contrasting with the feel-good atmosphere that has made the saga such a success. There’s even talk of moving and intense moments, a choice that will come as a surprise to long-time fans.

A feverish wait for the exit

This new opus is scheduled for Valentine’s Day 2025, a symbolic date that underlines the romantic, but also complex, aspect of Bridget’s quest. The first images unveiled in the trailer show a Bridget full of charm, but marked by the trials of life. The return of the Bridget Jones saga raises both excitement and questions: will it captivate a new generation of viewers while remaining faithful to the original spirit?
