After the success ofOppenheimer, Christopher Nolan is set to return with a mysterious project for Universal. Scheduled for release in the U.S. on July 17, 2026, the film features an impressive cast: Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland.

The news has already got fans excited, especially with Nolan returning to work alongside Anne Hathaway after The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar.

A project with a vague outline

According to Variety, Zendaya and Tom Holland, co-stars of Spider-Man: No Way Home, will appear on screen together. Sources suggest a film set in the 1920s, mixing history and horror with vampires. Other rumors suggest a sci-fi/espionage film centered on the complex relationship between a father and son.

The break with Warner Bros. and the choice of Universal

Christopher Nolan’s decision to work with Universal marks a turning point. In 2021, after 20 years with Warner Bros., he left the studio in disagreement with their strategy of simultaneous release in theaters and on HBO Max, a policy that had also provoked a legal dispute between Scarlett Johansson and Disney over the release of Black Widow. Nolan, committed to traditional theatrical release, opposed this policy. In joining Universal, he has chosen a partner who respects his vision of cinema.

Universal enjoys a profitable partnership with Nolan, whose last film, Oppenheimer, generated $950 million at the box office and won 7 Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture. For Universal, which considers Nolan “one of the few directors capable of guaranteeing original blockbusters”, this collaboration is strategic.
