Jacob Elordi to adapt American Psycho?
Luca Guadagnino is embarking on a new adaptation of American Psycho, with Jacob Elordi leading speculation as Patrick Bateman. Is black comedy getting sexy?
Filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, renowned for his singular adaptations, this time turns his attention to a black comedy classic: American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. This new version seeks to revisit the iconic character of Patrick Bateman, magnificently played by Christian Bale in Mary Harron’s 2000 film. This psychological thriller explores the depths of obsession and violence in the world of Wall Street golden boys. Guadagnino, renowned for his stylized work, promises a disturbing interpretation.
Jacob Elordi as Patrick Bateman?
At the heart of the rumors, Jacob Elordi seems to be the favorite to reprise the role of Patrick Bateman. With his acclaimed performances in Euphoria and Priscilla, Elordi has proved he can juggle complex and intense roles. Having recently collaborated with Guadagnino on the Chanel N°5 campaign alongside Margot Robbie, the Australian actor is looking more and more like a plausible choice for this iconic role.
However, Elordi is not the only one being considered. Queer actor Drew Starkey and Nicholas Alexander Chavez of Ryan Murphy’s Monsters series are also being considered. Chavez, who recently spoke of his resemblance to Bateman’s character, could bring an equally psychotic interpretation.
A high-risk project
Adapting American Psycho, 25 years after the success of the first version, is not without risk. However, Guadagnino is well aware of the expectations, and seems ready for the challenge. Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, says: “Luca is the ideal visionary to reinterpret this classic.” Our hope is that the film will provide a retelling that will appeal to fans of the original work as much as to fans of innovative cinema.
