American artist James Turrell, pioneer of the Light and Space movement, returns with a unique exhibition at Gagosian. You’re sure to be dazzled!

James Turrell is renowned for his installations that turn the perception of color and space on its head. At the age of 81, he unveils his most recent works at the Gagosian gallery. His last exhibition in Paris was at the Centre Pompidou in 2006. This new presentation promises to offer an even more immersive experience.

The light of James Turrell

Located just a few kilometers from Paris, the monumental site of Le Bourget lends itself perfectly to his creations. Turrell uses light projections on blank walls, provoking a total loss of visual reference points. Here, for example, he presents one of his Ganzfelds, a work in which light and color completely encompass the viewer, plunging him or her into an unparalleled sensory experience.

Since 1974, James Turrell has fascinated visitors with his Skyspaces, capsules bathed in light, open to the sky. Today, these works can be found in 85 locations around the world. These seemingly simple spaces are in fact theaters of the immaterial, where light becomes the main actor, altering our perception of depth and space.

Roden Crater: the project of a lifetime

The “At One” exhibition at Gagosian also features Turrell’s most ambitious project: Roden Crater, a volcanic site in Arizona. The site, under construction since 1977, will be a celestial observatory. Light and space will combine to offer a unique vision of the sky. Although the site is not yet open to the public, Gagosian is exhibiting documents tracing the stages of this work.

Don’t miss the opportunity to discover this exceptional exhibition until June 2025.

Gagosian Le Bourget, 26 avenue de l’Europe, 93350 Le Bourget.
