La Renommée: a gastronomic experience combining tradition and modernity

Located a stone’s throw from the Louvre, La Renommée is a restaurant that attracts lovers of refined cuisine and places steeped in history. The restaurant offers French recipes revisited with a New York touch. La Renommée is the new address coveted by gourmets in search of a unique culinary experience.

Parisian tradition

The story of La Renommée began in 1823, when the grocery-cream store La Renommée des herbes cuites opened on rue Saint-Honoré. Even back then, this address supplied luxury products such as butter and cheeses, as well as rare and exotic fruits. The store, with its listed façade, has remained virtually unchanged since then. It evokes a time when Molière, born just across the street, walked the same streets.

Over time, the neighborhood has evolved, but the soul of La Renommée has remained intact. Today, it’s a place where gastronomy meets history, attracting travelers and Parisians alike.

Time travel

As soon as you walk through the doors of La Renommée, you’re transported to another time. The bohemian, intimate ambience of the place, with its gilding and collector’s paintings, recalls the Parisian salons of the 19ᵉ century. An elegant atmosphere pervades the restaurant, and a soft jazz tune on the piano makes for an immersion in old Paris.

Leather banquettes, wooden tables and crystal chandeliers create a décor reminiscent of a bygone era, yet resolutely modern. Bernardaud porcelain and white linen tablecloths recall the splendor of the great Parisian restaurants of yesteryear.

The renaissance of La renommée

The completely renovated venue reopened its doors in 2023. La Renommée is now under the management of the American Hogsalt group, known for its renowned restaurants in New York and Chicago. This is the group’s first establishment in Europe, and perfectly embodies their philosophy of tradition and innovation.

The works of art adorning the walls come from the owner’s private collection and from Paris flea markets. Each piece has been carefully chosen to tell a story and enhance the atmosphere of the place.

La Renommée menu: with Franco-American influences

The menu is a tribute to the great classics of French gastronomy, but revisited with a subtle New York influence. Must-tries include the famous West Village Style Double Cheeseburger, a decadent dish with juicy, melting beef steak.

For meat lovers, the 42-day matured prime rib is a must-have on the menu. This generous cut, with its delicate taste of hazelnut and butter, is best shared for a convivial experience.

Seafood is not left out, with dishes like Keys oysters or wild turbot. As for classic French recipes, they are given pride of place with comforting dishes such as pot-au-feu, navarin d’agneau and escargots de Bourgogne. All dishes are based on carefully selected seasonal produce, guaranteeing freshness and authenticity.

A cocktail bar and intimate lounge

On the lower floor is a confidential speakeasy-style space, perfect for prolonging the evening in a hushed atmosphere. This cocktail bar under a vaulted cellar is a must for those looking to sample original creations.
Cocktails, such as the Shiso Gin & Tonic or the Sansho Chartreuse Mule, are an explosion of flavors.

Whether you’re a visitor just passing through or a Parisian looking for a new address, La Renommée is the ideal place for an unforgettable dinner. A blend of tradition and modernity, this restaurant embodies the spirit of the capital and offers a journey back in time through the pleasures of the table.
