New exhibitions are constantly emerging in Paris, enriching the many museums in our beautiful city. Here are some not-to-be-missed exhibitions in September.
Masterpieces from the Galerie Borghèse at Musée Jacquemart-André
From September 6, 2024 to January 5, 2025, the Musée Jacquemart-André reopens its doors with an exhibition featuring some 40 masterpieces from the Galerie Borgèse in Rome. This partnership between the two institutions is an opportunity to admire a group of major works by artists of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. From Caravaggio to Rubens, Botticelli, Raphael, Titian, Veronese, Antonello da Messina and Bernini. Visitors will be able to (re)discover the works of the great names of Italian art of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as those of Nordic painters who lived in Italy.

Alaïa / Kuramata at the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation
Until January 12, 2025. An unconditional admirer of Shiro Kuramata, in 2005 the couturier Azzedine Alaïa devoted an exhibition here to the Japanese designer, who died in 1991. Twenty years later and for the first time, the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa has decided to celebrate the designer once again with a dialogue between the creations of the two artists. More than 20 exceptional pieces of furniture and objects by Shiro Kuramata (1934-1991) are presented. By contrast, nearly 20 haute couture creations by Azzedine Alaïa maintain the poetry of form, the radicality of cut, the subtle choice of color.

Comics on every floor at the Centre Georges Pompidou
Until November 4, 2024, the Centre Pompidou celebrates the ninth art form in all its spaces and for all ages! A major exhibition on level 6, Bande dessinée (1964 – 2024), offers an overview of the medium’s modern and contemporary history. A rich program of new events accompanies this exhibition. These include an exhibition in the heart of the museum , La bande dessinée au Musée (on level -1). The Bpi is not to be outdone, with an exhibition devoted to Hugo Pratt’s iconic hero Corto Maltese, on level 2.

Yasuhiro Ishimoto, Des lignes et des corps at BAL
The exhibition brings together 170 vintage prints by Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921-2012), a major figure in the Japanese photographic scene of the 1950s and 1960s. The exhibition focuses on the first decades of Ishimoto’s work, between Chicago and Japan. The prints on show, presented individually or in series, illustrate Ishimoto’s ability to work with composition, texture and motif within a single frame. A key figure of the post-war period, Ishimoto would be considered ” visually bilingual “. This was due to his ability to combine the formal approach of the New Bauhaus with the quintessence of Japanese aesthetics.

From July 3, 2024 to February 3, 2025. The Musée Delacroix offers a new presentation of its collections based on one question. What is the role of clothing, or the lack of it, in the artist’s representation of the subject? Focusing on these garments is also a way of shedding light on the artist’s sources of inspiration and his creative process. Many works also show a particular interest in their pictorial treatment of textiles in general, colors and drapery, gold embroidery or motifs…

Eva Jospin at Versailles
From June 18 to September 29, discover artist Eva Jospin at theOrangerie du Château de Versailles. She exhibited her work Chambre de soie at the Eva Jospin – Versailles exhibition. This monumental embroidery creation covers more than 350 m² and is 107 metres long. It takes visitors on an immersive journey. Inspired by the Salle aux Broderies in Rome’s Palazzo Colonna and Virginia Woolf’s novel A Room of One’s Own, Chambre de soie depicts large-scale landscapes. The work was produced by artisans from the Chanakya workshop and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, in close collaboration with Eva Jospin.

We Are Here at the Petit Palais
For the first time, the Petit Palais welcomes urban artists! Visitors are invited to follow a unique itinerary of never-before-seen works, culminating in a spectacular installation of over 200 pieces, displayed in one of the collection rooms. This exhibition, inspired by the famous Salons des Refusés and d’Automne, pays tribute to the artistic revolutions of the 19th and 20th centuries. The works presented, created by emblematic figures of Street art. They bear witness to the history and evolution of this artistic movement. Cheval en Majesté arrives at the Château de Versailles
While the equestrian events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place at the Château de Versailles, this emblematic establishment is hosting a major exhibition dedicated to the horse and equestrian civilization in Europe from July 2 to November 3: Horse in Majesty. This must-see exhibition this summer is based on previously unpublished studies. It explores the horse from a variety of angles: political, artistic, diplomatic, scientific and even imaginary. With over 300 works from public and private collections, most of them international, it offers a new, global perspective on the theme of the horse. “Paralympic history” at the Pantheon
The “Paralympic Stories” exhibition traces the rise of the Paralympic Games since the mid-twentieth century and their impact on the perception of disabled people. “Living Natures” at the Musée Albert-Kahn
The Musée Albert Kahn explores the philanthropist’s passion for his gardens with the photo exhibition “Natures vivantes”, on view from April 30 to December 31, 2024. In 1912, Albert Kahn, a wealthy philanthropist, launched an ambitious project to create a “photographic inventory of the surface of the globe, occupied and developed by man, as it appeared at the beginning of the 20th century”.
