Les Fleurs d’Yves Saint Laurent: the back-to-school exhibition not to be missed
From September 20, 2024 to May 4, 2025, the exhibition Les Fleurs d’Yves Saint Laurent celebrates the couturier’s love of nature and flowers.
Yves Saint Laurent has always had an intimate relationship with flowers. As a child, he discovered the gardens of Paris. He immersed himself in the beauty of roses, lilies and bougainvillea, which would become recurring motifs in his creations. This passion for flowers was also intensified through his collaborations and friendships. Particularly with his partner Pierre Bergé, with whom he shared a common love of nature.
Together, they created lush gardens in their private residences, which inspired many of his collections. Yves Saint Laurent saw flowers as a way of escaping from everyday life. For him, each flower also represented a different facet of femininity. The delicacy of the lily of the valley, the passion of the rose, the nobility of the lily. This admiration for nature was reflected in his fashion. He didn’t hesitate to cover his models with flowers to enhance their grace and sensuality.
Les Fleurs d’Yves Saint Laurent: a garden of works at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris
This fall’s fashion exhibition, Les Fleurs d’Yves Saint Laurent, at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris from September 20 to May 4, 2025, invites you to explore this floral passion through some 30 textile silhouettes and drawings. Conceived by curators Olivier Saillard and Gaël Mamine, this exhibition follows a first presentation at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech. It bears witness to the importance of this theme in the couturier’s work.
The scenography, conceived as a veritable garden, unveils the designer’s emblematic creations. From the first embroideries of the 1962 spring-summer dress to the virtuoso prints of the 2001 spring-summer collection, inspired by the paintings of Pierre Bonnard… Each piece tells a story. A moment in Yves Saint Laurent’s life in which nature played an essential role. Visitors can also admire the silk gazar flowers of the 1999 summer bride. Remember, this dress was embodied by the one and only Laetitia Casta. A true masterpiece from the House of Saint Laurent.
To enrich this immersion, the exhibition also includes works by American artist Sam Falls. His creations dialogue with those of the couturier. His works, presented as echoes of Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture pieces, extend this exploration of nature and the ephemeral beauty of flowers. Through Les Fleurs d’Yves Saint Laurent, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris offers a poetic plunge into thecouturier’s floral universe.
