Van Cleef & Arpels inaugurates a new School of Jewellery Arts
The Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry house extends its educational influence and inaugurates a second jewelry arts school at the Hôtel Merci-Argenteau.
Located at 16 bis Boulevard Montmartre, this new School of Jewellery Arts, called L’ÉCOLE, spans 14,000 square feet in the historic Hôtel de Mercy-Argenteau. An 18th-century town house. It was once the residence of Count Florimond de Mercy-Argenteau. An Austrian diplomat who saved Marie-Antoinette’s jewels. It had never been opened to the public before. It now stands as a showcase for stage jewels. It celebrates the rich history of jewelry and the arts.
The new campus offers more than just more space. It enriches the school’s cultural and educational offering. With over 8,500 square feet of exhibition space, modern classrooms and an exceptional library called L’Escarboucle, it promises a unique educational experience.
“We were looking to expand L’École because it was such a great success,” says Lise Macdonald, President of the École des Arts Joailliers. The new school will also include museum-quality exhibition spaces, accessible to the public free of charge. There’s also a bookshop dedicated to the history of jewelry. This makes it a must-see destination for jewelry and history enthusiasts.
Van Cleef & Arpels and its schools around the world
With schools also located in Hong Kong, Dubai and Shanghai, Van Cleef & Arpels extended its educational influence worldwide. It promotes the history and art of jewelry beyond its own creations. “Our goal is to give the widest possible audience access to the world of jewelry,” says Nicolas Bos, President and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels. “Our world should impress and repel no one.
Founded in 2012, the school is committed to the mission of spreading jewelry culture around the world. It offers courses, lectures and workshops for young and old alike. There’s also a bookshop and the very first library devoted entirely to jewelry, with 6,000 documents! In addition to its campuses, traveling classes occasionally appear in Lyon, Japan and the United States, enabling an international audience to discover the fascinating world of jewelry.
