A sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” could be on the way
Fashionistas are in a frenzy over this news! Indeed, Le Diable s’habille en Prada (The Devil Wears Prada) could well be making a comeback on the big screen.
The Devil Wears Prada 2… What a great idea! Based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, this cult film was a worldwide success in 2006. It grossed no less than $326 million on release. The film won Meryl Streep the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role as the tyrannical Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway. Remember, she made life impossible for her two assistants. Andrea Sachs, played by the famous Anne Hathaway, and Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt.
It looks like Miranda isn’t done with them yet! Better late than never… 18 years after the release of the first installment, American screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna has been chosen to write the sequel. It is currently in early development at Disney, according to media outlet Deadline. It is also important to note that in an interview with E! News a few months ago, Anne Hathaway expressed skepticism that a“sequel to this story” would“ever happen“.
What can we expect from the next instalment of The Devil Wears Prada?
For the time being, details of the second installment are still unclear. The story will focus on Miranda Priestly and the decline of her career. Faced with this situation, Miranda is forced to reconnect with Emily Charlton, her former assistant, to breathe new life into her professional career. However, some of the film’s actresses are cautious about the project, notably Emily Blunt. Despite the success, fame and glory, she expressed reservations about a sequel. In a 2018 interview with American magazine People, the actress said:“I almost hope it doesn’t happen, because sometimes when there’s a sequel, it dilutes the specialness of the original“. So, will the new Devil Wears Prada live up to our expectations?
