Richemont, the luxury conglomerate that owns Piaget, Cartier, IWC and Van Cleef & Arpels, has appointed Nicolas Bos as its new CEO, effective June 1, 2024. This strategic decision comes as Richemont navigates a complex luxury market, with fluctuating demand in key regions such as China.

Who is Nicolas Bos?

Nicolas Bos, a seasoned executive with extensive experience in the luxury sector, has been with Richemont since 1992. He began his career at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris before joining Van Cleef & Arpels in 2000. In 2013, he became President and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels, where he oversaw a period of remarkable growth for the House. Since September 2019, he has also been overseeing Buccellati.

New management for Richemont

Johann Rupert, Richemont’s founder and chairman, expressed his confidence in Nicolas Bos to guide the group through its next phase of evolution. “I’m really delighted that Nicolas has agreed to take on the role of CEO of Richemont,” said Rupert. “His vision and ability to uphold Van Cleef & Arpels’ tradition of excellence and creativity have been essential to the House’s remarkable growth.”

This change in management comes as Richemont has published record annual sales for the 2023-2024 financial year. However, the luxury sector is facing a slowdown in demand in major markets such as China, making this leadership transition crucial to maintaining and optimizing the Group’s performance.

Internal reorganization

In addition to the appointment of Nicolas Bos, Jérôme Lambert, who was part of a leadership system described as a “troika”, will continue to sit on the Board of Directors and assume the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO), also from June 1, 2024. Bos will directly and indirectly oversee all the Group’s brands and regions, including the jewelry houses, finance and human resources.

Johann Rupert emphasized that this change would streamline decision-making and optimize operational management. “The reinstated role of general manager will help simplify decision-making and optimize operational management,” he asserted.

A major turning point for an iconic group

The appointment of Nicolas Bos marks an important turning point for Richemont. With his solid experience and strategic vision, Bos is well placed to lead the Group through the future challenges and opportunities of the luxury market.
