What are the highlights of Vogue World Paris 2024?
It’s the biggest show of fashion week! Vogue World Paris took place on Sunday June 23 at the prestigious Place Vendôme. A look back at this iconic evening.
More clothes, more designers, more athletes, more cultures… In short, the legendary Vogue World returns to Paris. After a first edition in New York and a second in London… This new Parisian edition takes over the Place Vendôme to celebrate 100 years of fashion and sport. The date of the parade, June 23, was chosen to coincide with International Olympic Day.
Carine Roitfeld, Ib Kamara and Alexandre Samson, curator of the Palais Galliera, have imagined this new edition of Vogue World, created in collaboration with French youth sports academies. The goal? Combining sports such as cycling, gymnastics, tennis, taekwondo, fencing and break dancing with themes representing every decade of French fashion since 1924. Here are the 5 highlights of this legendary event!
Aya Nakamura opens Vogue World Paris
Aya Nakamura lights up Place Vendôme for Vogue World Paris with Fly, her fourth single released in 2020. This song, revealed as a sentimental, minimalist ballad, resonates like a true declaration of love. And all eyes were on the star of the show. But how could it have been otherwise?
Aya Nakamura looked stunning in a long Haute Couture gown specially designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, adorned with Fred jewelry. It’s a symbolic and elegant opening to the show. It begins with a tribute to the 1920s and the discipline of cycling. Indeed, 5 Chanel gowns, including 3 re-editions of pieces from Gabrielle Chanel’s 1924 collection, mark the start of this unforgettable evening.
The greatest athletes come together for the parade
If Vogue decided to organize an event celebrating the intersection of fashion and sport, some exceptional athletes made their presence felt at Vogue World Paris. The Williams sisters, basketball player Victor Wembanyama. But also footballers Djibril Cissé and Emmanuel Petit. The French national cycling team and fencer Laura Flessel were transformed into models for the evening.
A 5-star cast of stars on the runway
Like the athletes, a number of international celebrities created a surprise by taking to the catwalk during Vogue World Paris. Among them was American singer Katy Perry, who made an unexpected appearance in a part of the show dedicated to 1980s style and silhouettes. Sabrina Carpenter, known for her hit songs Espresso and Please Please Please, also made her mark on the evening. She wore a look designed entirely by Jacquemus, celebrating the discipline of swimming and the 1940s. Reggaeton star Bad Bunny was not to be outdone, performing his track MONACO on Place Vendôme.
Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner’s equestrian arrival at Vogue World Paris
Model duo Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner made a spectacular entrance on horseback. In this way, they introduced the 1950s painting devoted to horseback riding. Having practiced horseback riding since childhood, and now experienced riders, the two young women were chosen to cross Place Vendôme on horseback this Sunday, June 23. For the occasion, they were both dressed by Hermès, sporting outfits from the autumn-winter 2024-2025 collection, inspired by the equestrian world.
French athlete Marie José Pérec closes Vogue World Paris
Dressed in a long dress in the colors of the French flag, Marie-José Pérec closed the parade by paying tribute to her victory in the women’s 400-meter race at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where she had appeared draped in the French flag. This symbolic moment is accentuated by a special creation measuring over 4.50 meters, accompanied by Chaumet earrings.
