The Michelin Guide unveils its new distinction for hotels
The famous Michelin Guide has just unveiled its new distinctions specially designed for hotels: the keys.
Last March, the Michelin Guide unveiled its list of 62 Michelin-starred gastronomic establishments… It is now diversifying to include hotels in its awards. After the stars, it’s now the turn of the keys!
So, on Monday April 8, 2024, the Michelin Guide has decided to present the crème de la crème of France’s most prestigious hotels, capitalizing on its expertise in listing over 5,000 outstanding establishments around the world.
Michelin keys: the new symbol of excellence
For this first selection, 189 French hotels, ranging from 3 to 248 rooms and located in different regions, were awarded between one and three keys. What’s more, with 10 distinctions, the Île-de-France region stands out, accounting for more than a third of the three-key hotels in France. Mainly located in Paris, these include prestigious establishments such as Le Bristol, Le Ritz and the Plaza Athénée.
These new awards symbolize different levels of quality and service. The 38 two-key hotels must offer an “exceptional stay”, while the 24 three-key hotels must offer an “extraordinary stay”. In addition, 127 hotels were awarded a key just for their “singular stay”.
These distinctions are awarded on the basis of anonymous assessments by inspectors. It covers criteria such as local integration, design, quality of service, value for money. But also the authenticity of the hotel experience.
Michelin Group, the recent owner of Tablet Hotels, is also offering reservations at a selection of 6,000 hotels in 120 countries, with key selections announced in other global tourist destinations throughout 2024. This new distinction will also be extended internationally in the near future.
