Le Nouveau Cool: Galeries Lafayette ushers in an era of responsible fashion

In a world where sustainability and environmental responsibility have become unavoidable imperatives, Galeries Lafayette is positioning itself as a pioneer of circular fashion with the launch of its flagship event: Le Nouveau Cool. The New Cool or an ode to circularity

From April 19 to June 23, 2024, the famous Paris department store will be transformed into a temple of creativity and sustainability. Offering customers a unique shopping experience focused on reinvention and circularity.

Since the launch of the Go For Good initiative in 2018, Galeries Lafayette has been committed to redefining the standards of the fashion, beauty and home industries by putting forward an innovative and sustainable approach. Under the mantra “Renew – Recycle – Repair – Resell”, Le Nouveau Cool embodies a new era in fashion. Where creativity and sustainability come together in harmony.

Karine Viel, Director of Sustainable Development at Galeries Lafayette, stresses the importance of circularity. “Circularity means giving value back to things, designing with the second life of products in mind. At Galeries Lafayette, we believe that beautiful objects deserve to be cared for, to be passed on, to last a long time.”

Le Nouveau Cool will feature a series of initiatives and events under the banner of circularity. Highlights of the event include:

The pop-up

An itinerant space offering personalized advice, clothing repairs and a sales depot. Travelling the length and breadth of France to promote a more circular lifestyle.

The Cool Brigade

Made up of experts and content creators on social networks, this brigade will offer a tailor-made service to customers. Advising them on how to create unique, long-lasting looks from pieces available at [RE]STORE and at Jaiio.

Les Ateliers de Refashion

Professionally-led sewing workshops will enable customers to learn garment repair techniques. These are organized in collaboration with Refashion, the eco-organization for the textile sector in France.

The (RE)STORE

A 500m² space featuring a selection of unique, vintage and second-hand pieces. As well as a more responsible fashion and lifestyle offering. Brands such as MaisonCléo, Âge Paris, Aud Rey and Kabas showcase their creations. All marked by a commitment to sustainability.

Talks

Conversations hosted by committed designers will be held at Appartement Lafayette, addressing topics related to more sustainable and circular fashion.

Le Nouveau Cool thus marks a significant step in Galeries Lafayette’s move towards more ethical and responsible fashion. By encouraging reuse, repair and recycling, this event reaffirms the iconic department store’s commitment to a more environmentally conscious fashion industry.
