EATALY Paris: Italian immersion… in the heart of the Marais district

It happened just over a year ago. Eataly, the most desirable Italian food concept, opened its doors in Paris, in the heart of the Marais district, under the auspices of the Galeries Lafayette group.

Founded by Italian Oscar Farinetti in 2007, Eataly has completely reinvented the codes of (slow) food with an ingenious avant-garde concept that has since become a global phenomenon. It all started in Turin, then spread to the four corners of the globe: Milan, Copenhagen, Istanbul, New York, Los Angeles… All foodies and other lovers of ritual gastronomy swear by the Eataly label. It’s high time Paris had one too!

A hybrid venue

Just a stone’s throw from BHV Marais, Eataly Paris stands in the place of the Parisian department store’s former staff canteen, and presents a magnificent setting that’s as uncluttered as it is welcoming. The idea behind the concept was simple: to bring together all Italian culinary specialties in one place, where you can eat, buy and learn.

It has to be said, for this first Parisian opening, the group saw things in a big way. This gourmet rendezvous dedicated to Italian gastronomy takes the form of an immense 2500 m² store! However, it is divided into several areas(the Italian market, the 7 restaurants, the enormous wine cellar in the basement, the grocery store, the cooking school…) spread over 3 floors. Here, you can stroll around and discover the best Italian products – organic and responsible – as well as incredible flavors.

Shopping stalls

Italian mamma or not, this is the place to shop ! As soon as you enter, you’ll come across a greengrocer’s with magnificent fresh fruit and vegetables, sourced from the finest market gardeners in the boot… We arrive 3 times a week! Next door is the exceptional butcher’s shop La Macelleria, where La Granda’s meat is sold.

The I SALUMI stand, offering the very best in Italian cured meats, is right opposite I FORMAGGI, the ideal spot to buy gorgonzola and other Parmesan delights. Near the exit(the store is designed as a pathway) there’s also an authentic panetteria where breads are made with certified organic wheat flour from Italian producer Mulino Marino.

In the basement, the cellar of great Italian wines boasts no fewer than 5,000 references, making it the largest cellar in Paris in this niche.

Food corners and specialized restaurants

At this point, you thought you’d seen it all, but you hadn’t. On the little square in the middle of the store (‘La Piazza’), all your culinary desires will be satisfied! For breakfast, head to Il Caffè e Gelato for a delicious cornetto and espresso prepared by the expert baristi as if you were in Rome. Fancy a quick snack? You’re bound to find something to your liking at the Tiramisu & Cannoli Bar, which satisfies Italian dessert lovers all day long.

At aperitivo time, sit back and enjoy an incredible Spritz or Bellini on the terrace of Bar Torino. Our recommendation: the Adriatico Chinotto cocktail, just the thing! As for pasta and pizza aficionados, don’t worry, they haven’t been forgotten. Upstairs, the Pasta e Pizza restaurant serves the best truffle margherita and linguine in Paris!

A large terrace in an enchanting setting

For a moment of Dolce Vita escape, take a seat on the terrace! Whether it’s Aperitivo time with a platter of cheeses and Italian charcuterie, or ice cream, this warm and friendly place is a must.

For those with a sweet tooth, this summer, a home-made ice-cream cart (Il Gelato) invites you to take a refreshing break and offers a wide selection of flavours: pistachio, strawberry, chocolate… Yum.

Short circuits and exceptional products… More than a place, Eataly is a true philosophy applied to the fairest prices. No wonder this temple to Italian food has become such a cult in such a short space of time. Definitely our new Marais HQ!
