La Maison du Whisky: The historic Parisian boutique opens its doors to us
Located at 20 rue d’Anjou, Paris’ very first La Maison du Whisky celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
La Maison du Whisky is a meeting place for some, a museum or even a library for others. Over the years, this meeting place has become a veritable institution.
Behind its handsome black storefront, you’ll find a wood-paneled, chic store. Here, you can stroll through the well-stocked display cabinets and shelves. Scottish single malts from the 60s, merchant whiskies from the 70s, brut de fût bottlings from the 80s. Or whiskies from around the world, classified by country.
In all, the company has over 4,000 references, including more than 800 exclusive products, and 650 international brands.
Firmly anchored on this foundation, the company is constantly reinventing itself and projecting itself into the future. To mark this anniversary, the boutique inaugurated the “Islay Room”, a vaulted room on the floor below. Dedicated to recent and vintage bottles from the mythical Scottish island. The room’s design is a modern, minimalist interpretation of the materials used on Islay, with slate flooring and lime-rendered walls. Superb lighting highlights the 300 bottles from Scotland’s most prestigious brands.
Exceptional bottles
This room is home to some real old nuggets – limited editions of Ardbeg, a superb Laphroaig 15 year old 1998, Sherry Cask from Signatory Vintage, or a Bowmore 16 year old 1991, aged in port casks… – to the delight of collectors.
Hidden away near the entrance, the boutique has also created a new space, “Le Lab”, to welcome and meet all spirits enthusiasts. Cellar masters, distillers, independent bottlers and all the big names in the spirits industry now have their own space.
Numerous masterclasses and tastings are organized for the general public. An opportunity to go behind the scenes of the different professions at La Maison du Whisky!
The latest addition is a limited edition range of whiskies. Called “20 rue d’Anjou”, it comprises four single malts from different regions of Scotland. An original, authentic gift that’s sure to please the men in your life!
